Psychotherapy

Welcome to „Berliner Gestalttherapie“

My name is Ruth Kaukewitsch and I am a Gestalt and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) psychotherapist. I offer psychotherapy and coaching in German and English in my practice in Berlin Kreuzberg.

Gestalt therapy is a talk therapy which can use a lot of creative elements. Awareness is important for this psychotherapy, driven by questions such as “What is going on in this moment?“ and „What are you feeling now?“ Many of us think a lot and are not well connected to our body and emotions. In Gestalt therapy we try to reintegrate our emotions, thoughts and body. In most of the sessions we will start with „What is going on right now?“ and often at the end we will have identified a pattern that we are using throughout our whole life. Then we can decide if it is helpful or not. If it isn’t, we can develop and practise new behavioural patterns until they have become natural to us. In Gestalt therapy, we learn to take responsibility for our life. This therapy can help you reach your personal goals by evolving into who you really are.

EMDR is a psychotherapy that uses bilateral stimulation to connect our brain parts. It is often used for healing phobias (for example if you are scared of visiting the dentist or cannot stand spiders) or traumatic experiences. A typical EMDR-Session starts with a specific situation, maybe a situation in which you have been frightened, sad or in which you did something you really regret. While you are thinking about this situation, the psychotherapist uses bilateral stimulation (for example asking you to follow his or her fingers with your eyes). Often, when old intricate situations appear, we experience a variety of emotions. For me, EMDR feels a little bit like peeling an onion. You peel away one skin after the other, going deeper and deeper and at the end the client finds closure or a new possibility to act in the future. EMDR is very helpful for coaching as well.

In my practise, I often mix both methods as well as other elements when it seems appropriate.

If you are curious, just ask for an appointment. The first session is free of charge. This session is designed to show if we would like to work together. If you decide that you would like to work with me, the charge is 65€ for one hour (60 minutes) which is not covered by health insurance.

As I am not a native speaker of English, I will have to ask you for explanations of a word or expression now and then, or look for the right one myself. You need to decide if this is okay for you in psychotherapy or consultation.

I look forward to your call: 030-23940239 or to your e-mail: info@berliner-gestalttherapie.de.
